About the Firm
Tyler J. Gately, Esq.
Founding Attorney
Tyler grew up in Lockport, New York, and attended the University at Buffalo School of Law. There, he graduated magna cum laude and in the top five percent of his class, served as Executive Editor of the Buffalo Law Review, was inducted into the Order of the Coif, and won first place and Best Oral Advocate in the Charles S. Desmond Moot Court Competition.
In practice, Tyler began by representing businesses and individuals in complex commercial and white-collar matters. He represented professionals, public servants, and executives facing government investigations, internal inquiries, and disciplinary proceedings, where a career and a reputation can be lost long before any charge is filed. That work included representing a sitting judge before the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct and police officers facing the loss of their careers. Those cases demanded exacting preparation, thorough investigation, and careful judgment, and he brings that same level of detail and advocacy to every client he serves.
Criminal defense remains the heart of his practice. Tyler has represented clients in several hundred criminal matters, from town court misdemeanors to serious felonies, including DWI and chemical test refusals, drug and weapons charges, assault, domestic violence, and theft offenses. He handles every stage of a case, from arraignment and bail applications through felony hearings, suppression and dismissal motions, plea negotiations, trial, and sentencing, and he has briefed and argued criminal appeals in Erie County Court. That work brings him into courtrooms across Western New York roughly a dozen times each week.
In every one of those settings, his clients were facing a serious moment. He founded Gately Law to protect the rights of the accused, the investigated, and the aggrieved. Every client receives guidance, a steady hand, and an attorney willing to fight for them at every turn.
My practice is built on the conviction that access to serious, prepared, and experienced legal representation shouldn't be a function of what someone can afford or where they live.
